Just like a guitar, the notes applicable for the six string banjo tuning are E A D G B E. Six strings banjos are the ideal crossover instrument for most of the guitarists since they are optimized using the same chords and notes. We’ve included a great video for you below, dedicated to tuning a 5-string Banjo to open GĪs you saw above, the open G tuning consists of G, D, G, B, D notes. The 5-string is normally tuned to an open G, though many variations are used to create different harmonic possibilities and voicing. This common tuning is used for playing all genres of music on the banjo. The 5-string banjo is probably the most popular, and truest form of the instrument. 6-String Banjo TuningĦ String Banjo Tuning is also called “American Standard Tuning” because its notes are the same as those of the guitar’s standard tuning. Open GĪs its name suggests, you will have open G, which means you don’t have to fret the notes to get a G chord. And fun fact, if you swap the fifth string (F#) with A, you will still get a D chord without fretting the strings. One perfect example of this 5-string tuning is Earl Scruggs’ Reuben. D-tuning combines the same pitches as C tuning but with a lower octave starting on D rather than C. It’s also called “C Tuning” or “Drop C.” This gives it a deeper, more resonant tone than an E chord. This variation of double C tuning lowers the pitch by one whole step, which is better suited for playing old-time music. It also adds a layer of drone tone due to the presence of two Cs. Many old-time songs used this tuning because it gave the instrument a lower sound. Double CĪs its name suggests, this tuning has two Cs. All you need to do is make the strings three steps lower in terms of pitch. If you know Open G tuning in a 5-string banjo, switching to E tuning is fairly straightforward. You’ll often hear this tuning in old songs like the Shady Grove. The difference is you’re swapping B with C. G modal is similar to the standard 5-string tuning (G, D, G, B, D). The only difference is that the Irish tenor tuning is one octave lower. Some players fiddle around with the tension to somewhat fix or resolve this issue.įun fact: G-D-A-E is similar to a violin or mandolin’s tuning. In terms of sound, you’ll often hear muddy or hollow because of the low tuning. This banjo tuning mirrors the fiddle instrument. And just like Chicago tuning, the plectrum is best for strumming. Many tenor banjo players use the C-G-B-D plectrum tuning because of the shorter reach. Plectrum tuning is not only limited to plectrum banjo. But if your playing style is more inclined to strumming, you can’t go wrong with the Chicago tuning. It’s not the best for melody playing because you’ll have to quickly reach the neck, which can be troublesome due to the gap (octave and a step) between its highest and lowest strings. However, there is a downside to this tuning. You can produce a series of eighth notes or several triplets at once without interference from adjacent strings because your index finger strums only string instead of two. In fact, you don’t have to learn new fingerings. If you play the guitar or a baritone ukulele, you’re already familiar with the Chicago tuning. If you don’t like this tuning’s disadvantages, you can always set your banjo to the standard tuning and put a capo on the second fret. However, there are two downsides – there is a risk of snapping the banjo strings, and you’ll sacrifice some low notes. So, why should you have your four-string banjo in this tuning? Well, its high B means you don’t have a hard time reaching the note, which is particularly useful for banjo players with small hands. Adapted Jazz TuningĪdapted jazz tuning is set to D-A-E-B, which is also used in Irish folk. And if you are working with flat-loving instruments like a saxophone, you’ll be happy to know that a standard tenor tuning works well.įun fact: If this tuning looks familiar to you, you’re not wrong – it is precisely like a viola! 2. It is the most common 4-string tuning because it works well with either the rhythm or melody section of a song. On the other hand, a 6-string banjo follows a guitar’s tuning E-A-D-G-B-E. If you have a 5-string banjo, its standard tuning is set to G-D-G-B-D. For a four-string banjo, the standard tuning is C-G-D-A. What Is the Standard Banjo Tuning?īefore we dive into the banjo’s different tunings, you have to know what its standard tuning is. But, what is the banjo tuning for a 4-string, 5-string, and 6-string banjo? What are your options, and how are they different from one another? In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know to get the most out of your favorite and preferred string instrument. Tuning your banjo affects every aspect of how your tone comes out of the instrument. Garza then storms in with a gun threatening them, under the influence of Key Face, and leaves to find Specs upstairs after locking them in. When Elise opens the door, she finds a missing girl who is chained to the wall. Elise realizes that the wall is a door and rushes to her bedroom to get the keys. Elise asks a series of questions and it is revealed to Elise that she'll find what she is looking for behind the wall. The whistle leads Elise to the basement where she realizes that it's coming from to behind a dead wall. Elise then gives one of the daughters a picture of Christian's whistle to give it to him and to tell him that she found it in their old bedroom. That night, while exploring the house, Elise and Tucker hear the whistle being blown from downstairs. Christian storms out, refusing to speak further with Elise. Christian walks in and recognizes her, he immediately becomes upset and accuses her of lying and abandoning him with their father. Elise recognizes them are both Christian's daughters, her nieces. She then runs away from home and abandons Christian.Elise is then seen with her colleagues in a cafe, when two women sit down beside her. She pleads with him not to abuse her, and grabs his face, revealing to him that he suffers a heart attack and dies in the future. Gerald appears, but doesn't see the ghost. Elise had heard a noise and checks the laundry room where she saw the female ghost initially. Elise then informs them that she had seen the ghost before in her teenage years and tells the story of a day she and Christian were cleaning the floor. When she is about to touch the ghost she jumps her from behind, steals the whistle, and shouts "help her". She then also finds a set of keys in her room attached to her father's old uniform and is led to the basement by mysterious sounds where a female ghost appears only visible to the crew. While in her old room she stumbles across Christian's whistle under their bed, which he had lost when he was six. Elise does a walk through the home that night, using a night vision camera so the other can see what she does. He tells her that there have been a lot of paranormal incidents happening in the home, mostly in her old bedroom, which he has blockaded and refuses to enter. Hesitant at first, she explains to her colleagues what happened to her during her childhood, then deciding to accept the job in order to make things right. While in New Mexico, Elise stays in her old home with Garza. While on the phone he reveals that he is living in her childhood home. She is called for help by Ted Garza, who has been experiencing paranormal activity since moving into his house. The older Elise wakes up from the nightmare.Elise works as a paranormal investigator with her two colleagues, Specs and Tucker, taking clients via phone calls. Gerald finds his wife's dead body as Elise is released from her possession. A wire descends from the ceiling, strangling Audrey. Audrey goes to the basement to investigate and sees Elise shaking in front of a wall. The demon, Key Face, possesses Elise and causes the house to violently shake. She picks up key to open it, and a hand with keys for fingers attaches the key to its' thumb. Elise refuses and Gerald hits her, then throws her into the basement, leaving her in the dark. While there, a demon through the red door tempts her in a child's voice to open the door, directing her to a key hanging nearby. Gerald comes storming in and tries to convince Elise to admit she didn't see a ghost. The spirit scares Elise and her brother, causing them to scream. They fall asleep that night and Elise hears an entity in the room, she attempts to talk to the spirit and tries to get it to come out. As they go to sleep, her mother then gives Christian with a toy whistle and promises that any time he uses it that she will be there to protect him. Elise's mother speaks with Elise, telling her that while her father doesn't understand her gifts and is afraid, she can come to her for anything. One night, moments after a prisoner is executed via electric chair, she begins to see paranormal things, including knowing the prisoner's name, family, and crime. Gerald works as an executioner in a nearby prison. The movie begins in 1953 with Elise in her childhood with her mother Audrey, brother Christian, and father Gerald in New Mexico. I just run it for 10 minutes and the mouse runs under the house, but comes back at night I think. The problem is I can't drive the car for another week while I wait on some parts. It looks like the mouse is only in the engine bay, so I just need to drive car regularly and it will leave. The first two techniques are working there. Peppermint oil is much more potent, so potent if you get a whiff of it, it burns your nose.Īttempt 3: Ammonia- I used the same technique as the peppermint oil soaked cottonballs placed throughout and under, but I did not put ammonia soaked balls in the interior or trunk. I found a post where a guy used peppermint tea bags and the mice used them to build their nest. My interior is minty fresh! I have done a search on this forum about mice. I think being in a sealed space, the smell is super strong, the mouse is staying out. However I am not finding any signs of mice in the trunk or interior. The next day I found even more poop under the headlights. No sign of mice for 2 days, but after the cedarwood oil residue dissipated, the mouse came back.Īttempt 2: Peppermint Oil+Cedarwood Oil- I did the same as above, but instead of spraying the peppermint oil, I soaked cotton balls with it and placed them stragtegicaly throughout the engine bay, undercarriage, wheel wells, trunk, and interior, and on the ground under the car. Rub the peppermint oil onto the car engine, being sure to cover all exposed areas. Pour a small amount of peppermint oil into your hand. Purchase a bottle of peppermint oil from your local grocery store or online retailer. Peppermint oil has a cooling effect and can help to prevent overheating. I sprayed down the engine bay with cedarwood oil, as well the wheel wells, trunk, undercarriage, and interior. Yes, you can spray peppermint oil on your car engine. Amazingly, it is also poisonous to rodents and snakes. I have used cedarwood to successfully eradicate, fleas, flies, and roaches. It triggers a danger response in arthropods/insects and causes them to close up their breathing holes and they suffocate. How am I gonna get rid of this mouse? I hosed out the doo-doos and the wee wee.Īttempt 1: Cedarwood Oil- miracle cure for all pest infestations I've had so far. Next day I found piles of mouse poop and puddles of mouse pee in there and down under the engine and back behind the shock towers area. So I banged all over the car and ran it for 10 minutes. I popped the hood, under the headlights was a big fat mouse. Came out to find the dog halfway inside the front air dam. Had the car parked in the garage, covered, came back and moved it back in the driveway. Tide Predictions for Rehoboth Beach, Delaware A spring tide is when the high and low tide difference is at it's most extreme, the highest and the lowest tides of the month. When we experience a high tide, the Earth, Moon, and Sun are in alignment, and this creats a strong gravitational pull. We call these tides neap tides, and it's when the difference between high and low tide is at its lowest.Ī neap tide happens between two spring tides, twice a month when the first and last quarter Moon appears. This means that the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun actually work against each other. When we experience a low tide, the Moon is facing the Earth at a right angle to the Sun. These tide types occur twice every month. These are called the spring tide (also known as the King tide) and the neap tide. There are two types, or extremes, of the tide. Inertia wins, and this caused the ocean to bulge out and create a high tide.Īs the Earth spins, different locations on the planet will face the moon, and this rotation is what allows the tides to cycle around the planet. The water moving away from the moon is able to result the gravitational forces trying to pull it in the opposition direction because the gravitational pull is weaker on the far side of Earth. On the opposite side of Earth, the bulge is caused by inertia. The gravitational pull of the moon is strongest on whichever side of the Earth is facing it, annd gravity pulls the oceans towards the moon, resulting in a high tide. Tidal forces of the moon in the open ocean will form as bulges of water that face the moon, but around land mass and coast lines, the water is able to spread out onto land, which creates the tides.Įarth's tides change based on the gravitational pull of the moon as it orbits us. At the lowest point (also known as a trough) reaches the coast, we experience a low tide. When the highest point of the wave (also known as a crest) reaches a coastline, the coast experiences what we call a high tide. The tides are very long waves that move across our oceans, and they are caused by the gravitational pull from the moon and, to a lesser extent, the sun. This model has other shortcomings as well. It is often offered as a solution to help those physicians who are chronically behind in completing their clinical documentation and entering the charges for their encounters, but in general it has been found that the chart completion rates of these poorly performing physicians does not significantly improve with the help of a medical scribe. This has been found to be helpful for some physicians, but only for the physicians who are already high performers. The scribe enters the relevant information into the EMR for the physician, presents available information from the EMR such as medication lists and test results, and enters orders for the physician. This service involves hiring a person who stands at the physician’s side during every patient encounter. Until recently, the best commercially available solution to the problem of EMR intrusion into patient care has been the medical scribe. Is this what I went to medical school for? Is this why I spent my precious second and third decades of life staying up all night long caring for patients with sepsis in the ICU? If I fail to do this, then I get penalized on quality metrics. I still have to sort through paper printouts from other EMR systems when I see a new patient coming from a different doctor, find when they had their pneumococcal vaccine or mammogram, and then manually input that information into my EMR. Does my EMR remind me when my patient is due for his pneumococcal vaccine or her mammogram? No. Certainly, my experience in clinical medicine has been that the use of EMR systems has created more meaningless clerical work and reduced the amount of face-to-face time available for clinical care, all while failing to provide any significant improvements in safety or clinical decision-making support. There is general consensus that the widespread adoption of EMR systems has been a significant contributor to physician burnout and a primary cause for the documented increase in numbers of physicians who report symptoms of burnout. I understand intellectually the scope of the problems related to physician burnout, and I have experienced it personally. During that time I have seen my professional energy getting more and more hijacked by meaningless, clinically useless and often frankly insulting clerical work. I have been practicing general Internal Medicine for over 20 years, both in inpatient and outpatient settings, and in urban, suburban, and rural communities. This is a short information piece about new real-world solutions that I as a practicing clinician am very excited about. Unfortunately, there has been very little work (other than opinion pieces and editorials) on designing real-world solutions that can alleviate physician burnout and thereby increase access, affordability and quality of care within our healthcare system. There has been a robust amount of work published on investigating the extent of the problem, its costs to the system, and its causes. Physician burnout is a major problem plaguing our modern healthcare system. I HAVE NEVER BEEN THROWN OUT OF A MOVIE THEATRE IN MY LIFE. She told me I had verbally threatened the man - I said "What?" I turned to the elderly couple beside me and said - "Did I verbally threaten him?" They BOTH told the manager NO - the manager insisted I leave the movie theatre anyways. Two minutes later, the manager showed up WITH A POLICE OFFICER. After two minutes, I told her - "I'm missing the movie, I'm going back in." When I went in - I saw the guy we had interacted with get up and run out again. There (while the movie is playing) she told me I called him names and spoke rudely to him - I told her she was crazy, I did nothing of the sort. The next thing I knew, the manager was at my seat saying I needed to come out in the hallway and talk to her. So I moved down as did the couple that I didn't know. But no, he was a lemming, he needed to sIt down where he was told to. I wanted to watch the movie - I told him just to sit down in the seven seats beside me. A man came in asking the couple next to me to move because he needed four seats. For more information visit ĬBL & Associates Management, Inc.Was sitting down - the movie had already started. The various frequencies a sound produces can be measured in decibels, creating a spectrogram of the sound. Most of the instruments and objects that create sound vibrate in multiple ways, creating not a single frequency, but a spectrum of frequencies. Spectrum represents how many different frequencies a sound produces. An oscilloscope is an electronic device that is often used to measure and visualize a sound’s frequency. The frequency of a sound can be calculated by dividing the rate of the compressions and rarefactions by the length of a soundwave. It is called pitch in musical terminology, and is measured in hertz. It is measured in decibels in time (usually milliseconds), and is often visually represented and analyzed as a waveform.įrequency defines how high or low a sound is. In musical terms, envelope is often described as articulation. Amplitude is calculated in decibels, a logarithmic scale, and measured over time with a level meter.Įnvelope defines how the amplitude of a sound changes over time. In musical terms, it is often known as dynamics. These variables include:Īmplitude measures the volume of a sound. Many of the variables which contribute to a sound’s particular quality are measurable thanks to the work of scientists and mathematicians who have created systems that allow us to calculate sound in various ways. Determining and calculating these variables allow someone to understand the mathematics behind sound. But the variations in how such vibrations occur are nearly limitless, creating every sound imaginable, and all the world’s musical traditions. Scientifically speaking, sound is nothing more than the vibratory movement of air molecules. Students use mathematics to compare and contrast the amplitude, envelope, frequency, and spectrum of each of the four sounds, thereby coming to a better understanding of what physical phenomena contribute to an instrument’s unique sound.
